Margi Wilson Counseling
Grief & Loss Counseling · Kansas City & Online

You're not the only one still grieving. It just feels that way.

The isolation of grief is part of what makes it so hard to bear.

The Worry Reel Won’t Stop Running

You’ve kept going.

Done what needed doing.

Held things together from the outside.

Then the quiet arrives and the questions start:

How do I get through this without them?

When does the wishing-I-could-go-back finally let up?

You wish you could return to before the loss, when life still felt like something you belonged to.

And everyone else seems to have moved on.

Grief this long, this present, doesn’t mean something is wrong with you.

A single conversation can be the turning point. Let’s find out if we’re a good fit.

Get Started Today

Grief doesn’t resolve by being pushed aside.

It needs to be understood and worked through.

Using an integrated approach grounded in insight, emotional awareness, and practical tools, therapy helps you make sense of your experience, understand the patterns shaping how you cope, and build the capacity to move through what you’re feeling.

Grief work doesn’t ask you to “get over” your loss.

It helps you find a way to carry it that allows you to reconnect with yourself and move forward with greater clarity and steadiness.

How This Work Helps You Move Through Grief

The work is collaborative, intentional, and paced to where you actually are.

  • Understand what’s driving the worry reel and begin to find relief from it
  • Build awareness of the patterns shaping how you respond to what you’re carrying
  • Develop practical tools for managing the intensity of grief in real time
  • Shift how you relate to what you’re grieving, session by session
  • Begin to feel present in your days instead of just moving through them

This work creates meaningful pathways to change, at the pace that’s right for you.

What working together looks like

A Three-Phase Path Through Grief

The work is collaborative, intentional, and paced to where you actually are.

1

Making Sense

We slow things down and explore your story: your past, your current challenges, and the patterns shaping how you think, feel, and respond. You feel understood and begin to see it differently.

2

Relating Differently

As insight grows, we work with how you experience emotions in real time, building awareness and tools to shift how you respond. Change becomes possible, not just imaginable.

3

Moving Forward

You begin to integrate what you've learned into daily life, more grounded, more connected, more confident in navigating what comes next. You move forward as yourself again.

Why Trust Me As Your Partner in Healing

An Integrated Approach to Grief Work

My work draws on CBT, Adlerian theory, and expressive arts: grief is complex, and a single method rarely meets it fully.

A Collaborative Space Where You Lead

We move at your pace, exploring your story together through gently sifting through its impact and forming meaningful pathways forward.

Grief-Specific Training and Experience

In addition to years of experience supporting my clients through grief therapy, I have run grief groups, and I continue to pursue additional training in cutting-edge grief therapy approaches.

Honest answers

Frequently Asked Questions

How does this work, in practical terms?

We meet regularly (online or in the Kansas City area) to explore your story, understand what’s underneath, and build tools for what you’re navigating day to day.

What if my grief doesn't match any "normal" timeline?

Grief has no standard timeline, and I don’t work from one. We move at the pace your experience actually needs.

Will I need to talk about the loss in every session?

No. Some sessions go deep; others focus on practical tools for getting through the week. You’re always in the lead.

What if I've already tried therapy and it didn't help?

A poor fit doesn’t close the door. I’d want to understand what you’ve already tried and what felt missing. That’s actually useful information for where we begin.

What if I don't have the right words yet?

You don’t need them. The first conversation is just a conversation: the goal is for you to get a clear sense of whether this feels like the right fit.
